“For to this you have been called, because Christ also
suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his
footsteps.” 1 Peter 2:21
Beautiful are the hands and
feet that seek to follow after and serve Christ! His path is not easy to
follow, but it is available for all. It is narrow but sure. It is a path of
peace, deep – inner peace – that cannot be achieved unless we embark on this path
and follow the trail He has left for us. This peace and love is not offered
anywhere else. But how do we go? We step into Christ’s footprints and follow,
He is the way. By doing this, our pain will be his pain; His Cross, our cross.
His love will become our love. We will take this together.
At times on this journey,
we will feel alone. We must continue on the path, continue seeking Him, for he
is still there. By removing Himself, He is just letting us find our way, on our
own to grow in strength, to growing dependence on Him. When it is dark,
continue. When it is sunny and bright, we should continue, relishing the
creation around us. But, still continue. There will be times even that the path will
seem easy. Although we shouldn't let our guards down. We should still seek Him
further, soaking in these times in order to carry on to the times that we feel
alone. The goal is to follow Him to the Father's house. All of this we should
keep in mind. Let's make His path our way, our path in following him.
Following Him is the only
way if we truly want to live. We will learn how to love and surrender on this
path. We will leave parts of ourselves along the way, so that we will be more
open to Him… So that, eventually, all that is left is Him in us because He has become
our focus and our source. The hands and feet that serve and follow after Him
are beautiful because the hearts, souls, and bodies that they belong to have
been polished and worn down and know the way of the Cross well.
